I went to see 'Blood Brothers' at the theater in the west end!
It was brilliant.
It is about two brothers who are seporated at birth. One lives
with the birth mother, who is poor with loads of other children
and the other goes and lives with a rich family. They meet at the start of the play, not knowing tht they are brothers but become best friends. They relationship gets messed around during the play as they fall in love with the same girl etc... but then at the end they find out that they are brothers just before they both die!
The set was really good. There were doors (front doors for houses)
placed at a slant so that the audiancecould see them, instead
of being at the side. This worked well becauseyou could
see the actors leaving and entering clearly. There was awashingline,
that hung from both sides of the stage, a bridge and a plain
brick wall.
I could hear the actors well, which was helpful.
The lighting was quite dark, to make a grim atmosphere. It was
set in a poor part of liverpool. However when the family move to
the country side, to make a fresh start, The lighting is bright and yellow.
This represents the sun and positiveness. When there were solo
parts (singing), the actor would have a spot light. This brought all
focuss onto them.
The acting was extremly well performed. The children were played
by adults, which was slightly strange to begin with. However as the play
went on, you fogot that they were adults because they were so
convincing. There body language, posture and speech was just like
a child. There was some comedy and serious emotional scenes.
They were both acted well. It made me cry at some parts :(
The accents were very good - in drama at school when we had
to attempt a liverpool accent...I couldnt do it, but I tried. It
was very funny.
What I didnt think worked well was The death scene. They
should have belt the tension up even more. But! The gun shot
was effective because it made every one in the theater JUMP.
I thought Blood Brothers was one of the best shows that I have
seen! It had different types of genres. Including tragic, romance
and comedy. I would recomend any one to see this show, even
if they dont enjoiy musicals. This is because it isn't cheesy and
it is well acted. The story line is touching and grips you right from
the begining.
